Michele Marr, CEO
My background and experience has involved working as a local authority school improvement advisor in special, primary and secondary phases, during which I trained as an Ofsted inspector. My subject expertise is Mathematics and ICT and I have significant experience developing these areas.
Since 2006, as a NLE, I have been involved in supporting other schools to become even better and as a System Leader for pupil premium. My interests and fields of specialism are developing outstanding leadership, quality assurance, and school self-evaluation. I am very proud of the team I have developed to drive forward the quality of teaching and learning and have initiated some creative approaches to promote effective learning.
Mark joined the Governing Body at Caludon Castle in March 2009 as a community Governor.
Prior to joining the Governing Body, Mark worked for Coventry City Council. One of his main responsibilities was to monitor the PFI contract arrangements to ensure the delivery of an effective facilities management service by the private sector on a day to day basis. Mark worked closely with the school during this period and when leaving the Council was subsequently asked to join the Governing Body and continue supporting the school.
Much of Mark’s spare time is spent as the Chairman and manager of 2 football teams at Ernesford Dynamos Junior football club.
For a number of years I have been leading on leadership and management, performance management, building capacity and school-to-school support. I have delivered school-to-school support since 2006, and Caludon Castle became a National Support School in 2007. I have fulfilled this role both within Coventry and outside the city. From 2009-2010 I was the interim head of a Warwickshire school that had been placed in Special Measures. The school was taken out of Special Measures in 2010.
I hold the NPQH and am an accredited coach for NCTL NPQSL programmes and have delivered a range of leadership programmes for our Teaching School Alliance.
I am a Local Leader of Education (LLE) and I see my role in Leadership and Management as an exciting opportunity to work within the widest possible community of schools to strengthen whole school systems and develop, even further, the talented individuals within it.
As Director of the Castle Phoenix Trust for Learning and Teaching, I work extensively with our support schools both within and outside the city. I strive to enhance pedagogical and professional practice in all areas of learning and teaching by shaping policy, training Leadership Teams and running whole staff inset. I adopt a coaching or mentoring role at need, when supporting individual teachers, and have experienced a great deal of success in moving teachers from ‘inadequate’ to ‘good’.
I am a trained and accredited National College facilitator and lead the national programmes of NPQML and NPQSL.
I am also a trained facilitator for the nationally accredited programmes: ITP and OTP, which includes accreditation as a coach.
Through our teaching school, I lead on ITT, and have a wealth of experience in training teachers.
Prior to adopting my leadership roles, I was an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) for all staff new to the teaching profession and, also, for Drama within the Local Authority.
Coming from an accounts background, I started work at Caludon Castle School 14 years ago. This was the same day the builders came on site to start our fabulous new school which I was lucky enough to be involved with up to completion. The journey proved a progressive exciting one from that day onwards.
I am the Director of Finance and Company Secretary for the Trust, working with a very supportive team.
I have a strategic, technical and leadership role to ensure sound appropriate financial governance and risk management arrangements are in place. I also ensure that value for money, regularity and probity are met, this also includes the Trust premises.
I am the HR Director for Castle Phoenix Trust, based at Caludon Castle, where I have been working since 2008. My role is to ensure that effective HR strategies and business focussed solutions are in place to support the vision and aims of our growing Trust, through people.
I am an HR generalist; I became CIPD qualified in 1992, I have 15 years’ previous experience of HR in the manufacturing sector and just under two years’ experience working for Coventry local authority in school governance and strategic services.
One of the key aspects of my role is to use creative approaches to the full HR cycle to ensure the Trust is an attractive employer. I am delighted to have the support of a Trust HR team to provide responsive HR expertise, advice and professionalism, so that we develop and retain a talented and motivated workforce, in order to maximise student success. I am proud to be part of a culture that is committed to staff wellbeing, recognition and reward. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with an ever-increasing number of skilled professionals and am very pleased with the enhancements to Trust HR provision that I have been leading since we became a Multi-Academy Trust.
I am responsible for the strategic planning of each schools facilities. This includes the monitoring of the day to day maintenance of each site, long term premises development / improvements, statutory maintenance, project management, catering, cleaning and health and safety.
I work with each schools site management team to support them in delivering a high quality service to the staff and students at their school.
I am extremely passionate about ensuring that the students at each of our schools have clean, safe and modern buildings.
I have been a member of the British Institute of Facilities Management for a number of years.
