Preparing for Interview

Once you’ve applied, your application will be sent to the Castle Phoenix Alliance for us to review. Don’t worry if you don’t hear from us immediately, we may be working to confirm your eligibility, references and more before we proceed to the next stage of the process.

Once we have received your application and made the decision to invite you to interview you will hear from our ITT Administrator Karen Brown. She will arrange a date for interview with you and provide you will all the details that you will need.

Your interview will comprise the following elements:

Delivery of a 20-minute lesson in your area of specialism. You will be provided with the topic that we would like you to teach. This part of the interview is your opportunity to show us your subject knowledge and how well you engage with students. Do not worry, we are not expecting you to deliver a perfect lesson, but please consider the following:

  • How will you engage the students in your lesson?
  • The clarity of your explanation.
  • What you are wanting students to ‘do’ during your lesson.
  • How you will bring the learning together at the end of your lesson.

An interview with the Director of ITT and Head of Department. This will cover areas such as your experience; why you would like to teach; safeguarding and a reflection upon your lesson.

Professional Skills tests of numeracy and literacy. This is nothing to be worried about and is only used by the Castle Phoenix Alliance to determine if you need any additional support in these areas during the course.

A tour of the school by some of our students.

What happens after the interview?
Following your interview and skills test, we will review your full application one final time.
You should expect to receive an outcome within 1 week. You will receive verbal confirmation via a 1 to 1 telephone call from the Head of the Castle Phoenix Alliance. The vast majority of our decisions are made within 2 days, with only rare cases taking longer than this, but we do advise for you to wait up to a week as sometimes events in school can delay things.

We will then process the outcome with the relevant university partner.
